Shadowsocks for Android devices

Shadowsocks is a light secure socks5 proxy, designed to protect your Internet traffi. And it has been widely used in China by those who want to bypass the infamous Great Firewall to access blocked sites such as Google/Facebook/Twitter.

Shadowsocks key features
1.Super Fast, Bleeding edge techniques using Asynchronous I/O and Event-driven programming.
2.Flexible Encryption, Secured with industry level encryption algorithm. Flexible to support custom algorithms.
3.Mobile Ready, Optimized for mobile device and wireless network, without any keep-alive connections.
4.Cross Platform, Avaliable on multiple platforms, including PC, MAC, Mobile (Android and iOS) and Routers (OpenWRT).;
5.Open Source, Totally free and open source. A worldwide community devoted to deliver bug-free code and long-term support.

It is also very efficient and does not consume a lot of resources in your devices. You can hardly notice it when you run the client in your smart phone. This document will show you how to configure it for your Android smart phone (the guides for other platforms are also available.)

1, Download and install Shadowsocks (SS) from Google Play Store. You can also get it from my server as Play Store is blocked in China. Click to Download

2, Open SS, add Profile —- this is to add the SS server (you can obtain free one at the bottom of the page).

3, If you have the QR code of the SS server, just scan it,otherwise choose Manual

4, Just fill in accordingly, the highlighted items have to be filling in

5, Here, Route;”All/Bypass Lan/Bypass LAN & China”, respectively means a)All traffic goes via SS proxy b)Lan traffic goes via SS proxy c)China&Lan traffic goes via SS proxy. In my opinion this is the coolest feature of SS as it enables you to only use the proxy while accessing the sites outside of China, while browsing normally for sites inside the GFW.

Of cause you can also use this feature as a VPN-like service while connected to a unsecure network such as public WIFI.

6, Save the setting, enable SS clicking the top right button. If your Android is Rooted (if you do not know what Rooted means, your phone is probably NOT rooted), grant it root request. Now you are using what is frequently referred as SS NAT mode. If your phone is NOT rooted, a VPN window will pop out,

Choose accept, and now the phone is in VPN mode.

7, When SS client is successfully connected, there will be a icon in top left corner,
VPN Mode

NATMode

That’s it! Now you can access Google/Facebook/Twitter and all other GFW-certified sites just like you are in a GFWless region. Please Twitter me for free Shadowsocks account. Or click 本页底部的先锋加速获取免费SS账号.

Thank you!
